How long do I have to wait before placing a Memorial on the grave?
There are some cemeteries that may require you to wait a set amount of time before placing your Memorial on the grave. Other cemeteries may encourage you to order your grave marker right away. Some believe it is a good idea to wait at least 6 weeks for a flat grass marker and 3 months for an upright monument to ensure the dirt around the grave settles.
Fresh graves can move and settle for a while, especially if there is heavy rain. While the ground is settling the dirt above the grave can move slightly. Some cemeteries level the grave with a special tampering machine. This packs down the fresh dirt above the grave. They then add a fresh layer of sod. This can reduce the amount of time needed to wait before installing your memorial.
Since the standard production time for flat grass marker is 3 to 4 weeks and most upright monuments take about 90 days to produce you should be fine ordering your monument whenever you are ready.
Another reason to delay installing your headstone is religious beliefs. Some cultures, such as the Jewish community, wait one year before setting their monument. This is called an unveiling.
Whether you wait due to religious reason or if you are still grieving we know that losing a loved one is very painful. Whenever you are ready to place the headstone on the grave, we are ready to help you find the perfect memorial for your beloved.
